William H. “Bill” Pyle, age 91, of Huntington, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, surrounded by his family at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne, IN.
Bill was born on January 14, 1933, in Old Hickory, TN, to the late Frank L. Pyle, Sr., and Goldie M. (Neely) Pyle. His family relocated to Chula Vista, CA during World War II before settling in Huntington, IN in 1949. He married his beloved wife of 59 years, Martha R. Scher on December 26, 1964, and she survives and resides in Huntington, where they have enjoyed raising their family.
Bill was a 1951 graduate of Huntington High School and he served in the United States Airforce from 1952-1956. He served 2 ½ years in Germany as a crew chief just after the Korean War. Bill returned to Indiana in 1956 and was a 1960 graduate of Ball StateTeachers College. Bill was a pilot for Utah-American Corporation and he also served as the general manager of Utah-American’s American Dryer division. He owned several businesses in Huntington including Tivoli Sport and Hobby Center, and Global Dryer. Bill was also City Engineer of Huntington for 4 years, from 1980-1984, and he worked for Sears in Fort Wayne and Marion before retiring in 2003. Bill was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington. Bill enjoyed boating, fishing, target shooting and being a pilot.
Along with his wife, Martha, he is survived by three sons, Brian D. (Myra Sturm) Pyle, Charlotte, NC, Keith R. (Cris) Pyle, Indianapolis, IN, Lance W. (Teresa) Pyle, Sherwood, AR; one daughter, Holly M.(Mike) Houser, Roanoke, IN; seven grandchildren, Derek Pyle, Jaret Houser, Marissa Houser, Jordan (Alex Caswell) Pyle, Alec (Gen) Houser, Aidan Houser, Luke Houser; and two great-grandchildren, Martha Caswell and Luca Houser.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Pyle, Jr., and Thomas Pyle.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750, with Father Tony Steinacker officiating.
A private burial will be at a later date at Gardens of Memory, Marion, IN.
