William "Bill" Gordon, Jr.

William (Bill) Gordon, Jr., age 82, of Huntington, IN, passed away on August 03, 2024, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

Bill was born on June 23, 1942, the son of William Stout and Laura Catherine-Kenner Gordon.

Bill graduated from Huntington High School in 1960, then went on to Ball State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in history and education. Bill further completed his education as a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Bill married Carole Holmes Capozza on April 03, 1976, at the First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, IN.

Prior to continuing his education at the I. U. School of Law, Bill taught middle school in California followed by a tenure within the Huntington County Community School Corporation. After receiving his JD, Bill entered practice with his father at Gordon, Glenn, Miller, Bendall and Branham in Huntington, IN. During this time, he also served as a Deputy Prosecutor and then retired from practice in 2010.

In addition to his father's distinguished legal career, Bill's maternal grandfather, Sumner Kenner (b.1881) received his JD in 1904 from Indiana University and was appointed Indiana Assistant Attorney General in 1923 and, subsequently, appointed judge in the 56th Judicial Circuit in 1925. Bill held this historical significance close, including the use of Sumner's judgeship chair in his home office.

Post retirement from law practice, Bill was able to focus on his love of nature, animals, ancestry and continued to be an avid reader of history and related fields.

Bill's most recent civic involvement included volunteering his time and expertise as a Board Member of the Pulse Opera House in Warren.

A brother, James K. Gordon, passed away in Florida on August 4, 2024.

Remaining to cherish Bill's memory are his spouse, Carole Holmes Gordon, his son Taylor J. Gordon, his step-son Matthew F. (Tami L.) Capozza all of Huntington, IN, a grandchild Kerri L. Gordon of Ft. Collins, CO and step-grandchildren, Heather R. (Erinn Tribble) Doyle, Blake A. (Abby T.) Bitzer, Chase (Jessica) Bitzer, Anthony F. (Emily G.) Capozza and Courtney A. (Tyler S. Carroll) Capozza along with 5 3/4 great-grandchildren.

A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date.
