Sandy S. Baxter, age 84, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.
Sandy was born on July 11, 1941, in Huntington, IN, to the late Fred VanMeter and Helen (Shattoo) VanMeter. She married Rex Baxter February 15, 1963, he passed away February 16, 2016.
Sandy graduated from Huntington Township School in 1959. Her and her husband Rex owned Baxter’s Restaurant for 30 years. She was a member of Markle Church of Christ, and she attended adult classes there. Sandy was also a former member of Red Hatter’s.
Sandy is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Sharon Betz.
Along with her parents, and husband she was preceded in death by six brothers; Richard, Melvin, Robert, Erv, Ed and Freddie Van Meter and six sisters; Betty Wolfe, Mae Gawthrop, Maxine Smith, Goldie Cargar, Dorothy Woster and Pauline Thompson.
Calling will be Friday, October 17, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 4:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home 715 N. Jefferson St. Huntington, IN 46750, with Reverend Gerald Moreland officiating.
Burial will be at Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
