Robert Lee Allen

Robert Lee Allen, 87, of Huntington, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at Markle Health & Rehabilitation Center, Markle, IN.

Mr. Allen was born on November 19, 1932, in Grant County, IN, to E. Russell and Glagie (Myers) Allen.  His parents preceded him in death.   Robert married Carolyn Rose Kimmel on September 1, 1956.   She preceded him in death on May 7, 2009.

Bob graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Marine Corp. and was stationed in Korea during the Korean War from 1951-1954. He later retired after 25 ½ years as a Fire Marshall with the Huntington City Fire Department. Bob had also worked as a part-time Building Inspector for several years.  He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and American Legion #7. 

Surviving are one son, David (Kelli) Allen, Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Barbara (Kevin) Rupley, Huntington, IN; Janice (Harold) Walls, Rochester, IN; one brother, Jay (JoEllen) Allen, Huntington, IN; one sister, Christie Lake, Fort Wayne, IN;10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Carolyn, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Allen (August 6, 2005); two brothers, Dorrel Allen, Harry Allen; and four sisters, Shirley Shultz, Sr. Margaret Allen, Betty Vetor and Dorotha Brown.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 2:45 p.m. prior to calling hours on Wednesday, December 18, at the funeral home.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington. 

Additional calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow the calling hours on Thursday, December 19, at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN  46750, with Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.

Burial with Military Honors will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Stain glass window refurbishing fund in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
