Richard “Dick” Cyr Widelski, age 82, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on March 13, 1943, in Chicago, IL, to the late Victor S. and Blanche (Cyr) Widelski. He married Marilyn “Sue” Nix on May 4, 1968, and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2021.
Dick graduated in 1961 from Edison High School in Gary, IN. He proudly served in the United States Army as a teletype repairman during the Vietnam War in Vietnam. He was a Field Service Tech for RCA, G. E., and Pitney Bowes and retired in 2006. Mr. Widelski was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, IN, where he served as a CCD instructor, Lector and Eucharistic minister for many years. He was also a member and Past President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and served on the Board of Directors for United with Love of Huntington County.
Dick was many things to many people; he wore many hats. He was a fun loving and affectionate man that gave the greatest hugs. Dick enjoyed celebrating with family for holidays, and birthdays and just getting together; and he loved being known as the family bartender. He was the constant handyman for not only his kids and grandkids, but for the many boards he served on. He loved woodworking and tinkering in his garage and coming up with different ideas. He always enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue, and his brothers. His affectionate sense of humor and quick wit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dick is survived by three daughters, Christi (Michael) McElhaney, Huntington, IN, Jacki (Jeff) Rude, Fort Wayne, IN, Vicki (Jon) Wirth, Fishers, IN; one son, Stephen L. (Gelyn) Widelski, Aubrey, TX; 12 grandchildren, Brittany (Daniel) Korff, Drew (Kaitlyn) McElhaney, Courtney (Collin) Wesco, Lindsey (Lucas) Newsome, Jacob Rude, Mitchell (Julia) McElhaney, Maxwell Wirth, Graham Scher, Madeline Wirth, Zachary Rude, Malori Rude, Isaac Rude; and one great-grandchild, Warner Wesco. Dick is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Betty Widelski, Benton, KY, Annette “Muggs” Widelski, Oak Island, NC, and Joyce Widelski, Richmond, TX.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald Widelski, Jerome Widelski, Lawrence Widelski, and Victor Widelski.
