Richard D. Keplinger

Richard D. Keplinger, Sr., 87, of Huntington, passed away at 1:25 a.m. at Parkview Huntington Hospital on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

Mr. Keplinger was born on May 14, 1932, in LaFontaine, IN, (Wabash County), to John and Mary (Beard) Keplinger.  His parents preceded him in death.   He married Sarah Elzey on May 10, 1952. She survives and lives in Huntington.

Richard worked at Peabody Seating Company for 15 years in North Manchester, IN, and in maintenance at Huntington College for 15 years.   He also worked 13 years at the Street Department for the City of Huntington.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard “Rick” Dean Keplinger, Jr., Jeff Wayne Keplinger, both of Huntington, IN; three daughters, Deborah Parmelee, June Frederick, Janet R. Jones, all of Huntington, IN; one sister, Elsie Kiefer, Huntington, IN; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jamie Frederick; four brothers, Max Keplinger, Leo Keplinger, Forest Keplinger, Howard Keplinger; and five sisters, Thelma Smith, Mabel Herndon, Margie Paul, Betty Souers and Norma Bir.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.

Additional calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Brooks Fetters Officiating at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.

A private burial will be held at a later date.
