Phyllis Jean (Sparks) Hillegas

Phyllis Jean Hillegas, age 90, of Roanoke, IN, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Heritage Pointe of Huntington. Phyllis was born on December 1, 1934, in Huntington, IN, to  the late George and Ethel Evelyn (Forst) Sparks.  She married James “Jim” Hillegas on May 26, 1962, and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1996.

Phyllis was a 1952 graduate of Clear Creek High School.   In her younger years she worked as a packer for Moon and Moons in Huntington and also as a cleaning lady for many years.  She was a member of the Aboite Baptist Church and attended the Charity Baptist Church in Huntington with her son. She enjoyed cooking, baking, putting together puzzles and doing word searches.  She always enjoyed her cat, Emily.

Phyllis is survived by one son, Jerry Hillegas, Roanoke, IN.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Hillegas and one sister, Catherine Stonebraker.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home – Roanoke Chapel, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke, IN, 46783, with Pastor Stephen Arney officiating.

A Graveside Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, IN.
