Mildred Irene (Stetzel) Craig

Mildred Irene Craig, age 97, of Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Englewood Nursing Home in Fort Wayne, IN.  

Mildred was born on August 4, 1926, in Huntington, IN, to the late Lowell and Ruth (Ahlschwede) Stetzel. Mildred married Homer D. Craig on April 14, 1946, and he passed away November 23, 2008.

Mildred was a 1944 graduate of Huntington High School. She worked for Schacht Rubber Company in Huntington for many years and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Huntington.

Mildred is survived by one son, Jim (Betty) Craig, Huntington, IN; four daughters, Diana Mason, Huntington, IN, Judy (Rick) Heape, Gaston, SC, Beverly (Anthony) Capasso, Dixen, IL, and Ruth Craig, Fort Wayne, IN. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son Dale Craig; one daughter Janice Martin; a brother, George Allen Stetzel; and two great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Monday July 15, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 648 N. LaFontaine Street, Huntington, IN, with Rev. Timothy Lorenz officiating.

A burial will be at Greenlawn Mausoleum Park, Fort Wayne, IN.
