Michael D. Walker, 76, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Walker was born on September 10, 1944, in Huntington, IN, to Robert Rex and Virginia (Boe) Walker. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Walker graduated from Huntington High School in 1962 and attended two years at Indiana Tech. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp serving during the Vietnam War from 1964-1967 and received the Purple Heart. He worked on the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a brakeman conductor. He was a bartender at Bell Café for several years and then worked for Southwest Allen County Schools as a building supervisor where he retired in 2002. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, VFW Post #2689, and American Legion Post 7.
Michael is survived by one son Steven M. (Stacy) Walker, Huntington, IN; one step-son, Geoff Harris, Gallatin, TN; and one step-daughter, Christie (Tony) Cochran, LaFontaine, IN. He is also survived by one brother, James P. (Lucy) Walker, Spring Branch, TX; his brother-in-law, Wes (Peggy) Bard, Huntington, IN; five grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Marcia Bard; and nephew, Scott Bard.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at McElhaney- Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.
After the calling the family will then process from the funeral home to a Graveside Service with Military Rites at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
