Michael Lee Sheets

Michael Lee Sheets, age 71, formerly of Roanoke, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024, after a long illness at Sage Bluff Health & Rehab Center in Fort Wayne, IN.                                              

Michael was born on March 22, 1953, in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Annan “Andy” and Mary Ann (Rose) Sheets.

Michael married Janet M. Alles in 2005 on a beach in Hawaii. She passed away on November 23, 2022. Michael is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Christopher) Hollowell, Topeka, IN; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Porter, Roanoke, IN, Judy (Stan) Neuenschwander, Marion, IN; several nephews and a niece, along with special friends Kevin and Lisa Sauter.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Randy Porter.

Michael graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1971. He worked various jobs throughout his life and retired from Assmann Fabrication in Garrett after 28 years of employment in 2015. He was a member and very involved with The Sons of the American Legion, Post 160, in Roanoke, IN. He coordinated the Roanoke Fall Festival Parade for many years. Michael served as Detachment Commander for the Sons from 2006-2007. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching Farm League Baseball in Roanoke. He also enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie with friends and loved playing golf.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service at McElhaney Funeral Home Roanoke Chapel 240 Crestwood Dr. Roanoke, IN 46783, with Pastor Jason Fields officiating.

Graveside Services will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sons of American Legion or Honor Flight Northeast Indiana in care of McElhaney Funeral Home Roanoke Chapel, 240 Crestwood Dr. Roanoke, IN  46783.
