Michael E. Scher

Michael E. Scher, age 82, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at his residence in Huntington surrounded by his family.

Michael was born on September 3, 1943, to the late George W. and Julia Leota (Bauch) Scher, Sr., in Huntington, IN.  Mike married Dianne E. Jeffrey on July 18, 1987, and she survives and resides in Huntington. 

Mike graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1962.  Mike worked at Our Sunday Visitor for 33 years and later worked at Majestic Assembly/CFM and retired in September 2005.  He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, and the Knights of Columbus Council #1014.  Mike enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and was a big civil war buff.  He loved cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Notre Dame.

Along with his wife, Dianne, he is survived by one daughter, Erika (Daniel Eckert) Thompson, Huntington, IN; three brothers, Brother James Scher OSC, MN, Terry (Sue) Scher, Fort Wayne, IN, and Patrick (Jackie) Scher, Roanoke, IN.  He is also survived by three granddaughters, Alicia, Breann, Jordyn; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Scher and Sharon Mason. 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, George W. Scher, Jr.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 648 N. Lafontaine Street, Huntington, IN, with Pastor Timothy Lorenz, officiating.

Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.
