Max E. Heffelfinger, 89, of Huntington, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at his home.
Max was born on September 16, 1933, in Huntington, IN, to the late Laverne and Chloella (Lash) Heffelfinger. His first wife was Margaret Haneline; he then married Betty White on December 24, 1964, and she preceded him in death on September 24, 2012. His third marriage was to Margaret VanMeter Howard on May 27, 2022, and she survives in Huntington.
Max was a retired fireman with the Huntington City Fire Department. He served in the United States Army from 1954-1957 during the Korean War. He loved woodworking, fishing and eating BBQ ribs. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Huntington.
Max is survived by one son, Roger (Christine) Heffelfinger, Huntington; two daughters, Sheri Heffelfinger, Huntington, Tamara “Jane” Heffelfinger, Austin, TX; one sister, Mary Miller; four grandchildren, Matthew (Crystal) Hogan, Krystal (Eric) Morrow, Edward Heffelfinger, Cori Heffelfinger; three great grandchildren, Kylie Morrow, William Morrow, Hailee Grace Hogan; and close family friend, Lisa Hernandez.
Along with his parents and wives he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Heffelfinger; and two sisters, Betty Bowers and Colleen Workman.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to any local VFW or the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) in care of McElhaney-Hart/Deal Rice Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
