Margie Hunnicutt Obituary

Margie Kennedy Hunnicutt, age 88, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Story Point Fort Wayne North.

Margie was born on July 5, 1935, in Lafayette, IN, to the late Paul J. and Theone (Hilsabeck) Kennedy. She married Joseph K. Hunnicutt on January 4, 1958, and he preceded her in death on April 5, 2022.

Margie was a 1953 graduate of St. Mary Academy in Austin, TX, and attended Quincy College, in Illinois.   She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, and she enjoyed volunteering with Open Door in Huntington and at the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen in Fort Wayne.  She was a member of the Rosary Sodality, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a 30-year volunteer for the Hospital Guild. Margie was a school teacher with St. Augustine Catholic School in Rensselaer and had also worked for the City of Huntington, the Huntington Park Department and at the Huntington Township Assessor’s Office.

Margie is survived by four sons, Matthew Hunnicutt (Werner Ochoa), Chicago, IL, Martin (Breck Ann) Hunnicutt, Auburn, IN, Vincent Hunnicutt, Huntington, IN, Todd Patrick Hunnicutt, Fort Wayne, IN; one daughter, Mary “Peggy” (Ted) Billings Frost, Arvada, CO; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Martin Kennedy, Oxford, IN, Pat Kennedy, Flora, IN, Tim Kennedy, Carlsbad, CA; and three sisters, Kay Sizelove, Overland Park, KS, Ella Carroll Mannebach, Mesa, AZ, and Kevin Lunsford, Duluth, MN.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Rapczynski; one son, Michael Hunnicutt; one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Hunnicutt; one brother, Jack Kennedy; two sisters, Sally Griffin, Joan Baulos; and two grandchildren; Jerin and Caleb Hunnicutt.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, from 3pm to 7pm with a Recitation of the Rosary to begin at 2:30pm at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St, Huntington, IN.  

Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 9am to 10am with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10am all at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750, with Fr. Thomas Zehr presiding.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
