Lillian "Vonnie" Hoover Obituary

Lillian “Vonnie” Hoover, 91, of Huntington, IN, passed away on  October 16, 2023, at The Waters of Huntington.

Mrs. Hoover was born on July 20, 1932, in Huntington, IN, to Harold and Lillian (Creager) Detwiler.  Her parents preceded her in death.  She married Herbert Hoover on November 28, 1953, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1992.

Vonnie graduated from Huntington High School in 1950.  While in high school, she was a majorette all four years with the high school band.  She was a life-long member of the First Church of the Nazarene.  She retired from waitressing where she served at many restaurants over the years, Wishbone, Station Haus, George’s Dog House and Nick’s Kitchen to name a few.

Vonnie and her husband of 38 years owned and operated “Hoover the Mover” and many times in the winter months Vonnie and Herb would move furniture out of state for their customers and even though they were traveling in a truck – they considered the time away as a little vacation.  Vonnie also worked in several restaurants in the Huntington area as a waitress and she later worked in the offices of Community & Family Services. Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends.  She always felt that the many blessings she experienced in her life came directly from her Lord.

Vonnie is survived by one son, Randy (Cindy) Hoover, Hendersonville, TN; one daughter, Kathy (Mel) Connolly, Warsaw, IN.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Steve (Jenny) McNally, Huntington, IN, Andrew (Danielle) Meads, Tony (Liz) Meads, Sarah Connolly, all of Warsaw, IN, Mackenzie Connolly, Texas and Nathan Connolly, Knox, IN;  Jessica Newsome and Casey Newsome, Huntington, IN, Heather Martin, Allison Martin, both of Huntington, IN, Justin (Jill) Hoover, Tipton, IN, and Haley Hoover, Huntington, IN, and 19 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Special cousins: Tom (Peg) North, Roanoke, IN, Don (Jolene) North, Gwinn, MI; Jim North, Huntington and Judy North, Huntington, IN.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Hoover Caverly and four of her special cousins, Gary North, Larry North, Ron North, and John North.
