Lewis “Bud” Walker, age 92, passed away at Heritage Pointe of Warren, Monday, January 15, 2024. He was born on November 25, 1931, in Union City, Tennessee, the son of Bonnie Stokes and Myrtle (Dunn) Walker.
His first marriage was to Bonnie Sue Campbell in 1955. His second marriage was to Joyce Springer Gerz, April 23, 1977. She preceded him in death in 2018.
Bud graduated from Union City High School with the class of 1949. After graduation he relocated to Detroit, Michigan and worked for Chrysler. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955. After being discharged from the Air Force he returned to Detroit and resumed working at Chrysler. He then became a truck driver, and eventually relocated to Huntington. He worked for Ruan Transport and retired from Lassus Brothers. After retirement he worked at Carter Lumber in Huntington.
He was a member of St. Paul’s County Line Church and held membership in several clubs and organizations, including the Andrews Lions Club, Twin Bridges Square Dance Club and Greyhound Companions of Indiana. He sang with the Columbia City Barber Shop Quartet and loved to sing gospel music.
He is survived by his children, Stephan (Cantrenia) Walker, Ligonier, IN, Kimberly (Dave) Shivley, Huntington, IN, Susan (Robert) Worsham, Huntington, IN, Lori Sunday, Andrews, IN, and Karl (Debra) Gerz, Ossian, IN. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sylvia (Bud) Ryland, Union City, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mozell (Benjamin) Rowden and a grandson.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Pastor Conrad Thompson officiating.
Burial will be at Gardens of Memory, Marion, IN.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Andrews Lions Club or St. Paul’s County Line Church in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN, 46750.
