Joseph Kelly Hunnicutt, 90, formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away at 2:12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Story Point, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Hunnicutt was born on November 1, 1931, in Huntington, IN, to Rosel and Mary C. (Kelly) Hunnicutt. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Hunnicutt married Margaret “Margie” Kennedy on January 4, 1958. She survives and resides in Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Hunnicutt was a 1949 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. Joe served in the United States Air Force with the rank of Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1994, after 44 years, from Our Sunday Visitor as the Pre-press Production Manager. After retirement, he was employed by the Huntington County Community Schools for 10 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN, St. Vincent DePaul Society, American Legion, a 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus and a life member of the VFW Post #2689 in Huntington.
Along with his wife he is survived by four sons, Matthew Hunnicutt (Werner Ochoa), Chicago, IL, Martin (Breck Ann) Hunnicutt, Fort Wayne, IN, Vincent Hunnicutt, Huntington, IN, Todd Patrick Hunnicutt, Fort Wayne, IN; one daughter, Mary “Peggy” (Ted) Billings Frost, Arvada, CO; one sister, Mary Sellers, Huntington, IN; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Rapczynski; one son, Michael Hunnicutt; one daughter-in-law, Kathleen Hunnicutt; five brothers, Victor Hunnicutt, William Hunnicutt, John Hunnicutt, Robert Hunnicutt, Richard Hunnicutt, and two grandchildren; Jerin and Caleb Hunnicutt.
Calling hours will be on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St, Huntington, IN. Recitation of the rosary will be held at 2:30 p.m. prior to calling.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a calling one hour prior to Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750 with Father Thomas Zehr, presiding.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
