John "Jack" Franklin Mettler

John “Jack” Franklin Mettler, age 85, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at The Waters of Huntington.  

Jack was born on November 13, 1938, in Bluffton, IN,  to the late Joseph and Theresa M. (Osterholt) Mettler. Jack married Jean Merckx on April 20, 1963, and she survives and resides in Huntington.

Jack graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1957 and attended Insurance School in New York.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1963 during the Berlin Crisis.  He was co-owner of the Mettler Agency with his brother, Patrick, for many years and was also a private pilot.  Jack was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus, Noon Kiwanis, Crimestoppers in Huntington, Post #160 in Roanoke, Huntington Jaycees, and the Corvette Club in Fort Wayne.  He loved to fish and enjoyed his trips to his cabin in Minnesota. 

Along with his wife Jean, Jack is survived by four sons, Michael (Martha) Mettler, Indianapolis, IN, Dan (Lori Ritchie) Mettler, Fishers, IN, Thomas (Lisa) Mettler, David (Theresé) Mettler, both of Huntington; one brother, Patrick (Janet) Mettler, Huntington, IN; and 13 grandchildren.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. followed by calling hours from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.

Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St, Huntington, IN.

The burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
