John William Zahm, I, age 90, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Zahm was born on October 20, 1930, in Huntington, IN, to William Mathias and Mary Lucy (McClanahan) Zahm. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Zahm married Marie Ann Vachon, on August 28, 1954, in New Haven, IN. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2018.
John was a 1948 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He served in the United States Air Force with the 122nd Division Fighter Wing during the Korean War. He received an Associate’s Degree in Business and retired from the Majestic Company. In retirement he enjoyed working at the Erie Department Store. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
John is survived by four sons, John W. (Linda) Zahm, II, New Haven, IN, Eric N. (Kelly) Zahm, Huntington, IN, Mark A. (Jodi) Zahm, Roanoke, IN, Philip S. (Lisa) Zahm, Huntington, IN, four daughters, Christine M. (Rick) Haskett, Huntington, IN, Leslie R. (Steven) Doty, Anderson, IN, Lisa F. Zahm, and Denise E. Zahm, both of Huntington, IN. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Susan Zahm; 23 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son, Robert B. Zahm; step-mother, Mae Eisenhauer-Zahm; grandson, Brandon Zahm; brother, James F. Zahm and an infant sister.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney- Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.
Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750, with Father Thomas Zehr and Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Huntington Catholic School or Masses at St. Mary Catholic Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
