Janet "Jan" S. (Bippus) Petre

Janet “Jan” S. Petre, age 76, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at her residence.

Jan was born on March 4, 1946, in Wabash, IN, to James and Catherine (Strombeck) Bippus. Her parents preceded her in death. Jan married Michael D. Petre on November 21, 1964, and he survives and resides in Huntington.

Jan graduated from Huntington High School in 1964. She was a homemaker, and worked at Northwest Elementary for several years as an aide, cleaned houses for many years, and worked the front desk at Dr. Eric Harman, Optometry.   She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington.

Along with her husband, Michael, she is survived by one son, James R. (Janell) Petre, Churubusco, IN; one daughter, Amy C. (David) Orr, Fort Wayne, IN; one brother, Stan (Jenny) Bippus; one sister, Joyce Winkelman, both of Huntington, IN; and six grandchildren, Taylor (Erika) Petre, Logan Petre, Mackenzie (Jordan) Cook, Shea Petre, Tony (Ashley) Orr and Justin Orr. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Wren Petre, Crew Petre and Hadley Cook.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Todd Petre.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Additional calling hours will follow on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, Indiana, with Fr. Thomas Zehr presiding.

A private burial will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
