James W. Young

James W. Young, age 89, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at The Waters of Huntington.

Jim was born on January 19, 1936, in Huntington, IN, to the late Archie and Elizabeth “Betty” (Pfister) Young. Jim married Caroline (Seifert) Young on May 27, 1961, and she preceded him in death on February 5, 2003.  Jim’s second marriage was to Joyce Raney on June 22, 2011, and she survives and resides in Huntington.

Jim was a 1954 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958-1960.  Jim retired from the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as an Engineer after 46 years.  Jim was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1014, where he served for over 70 years as a member and as Grand Knight from 1979-1980 and again from 1981-1982. Jim was instrumental in getting the Pitch-In program started which is an annual fundraiser for the Knights of Columbus. Jim was also a member of the Elks Lodge and VFW #2689.

Along with his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his four children, Jeffry (Theresa) Young, Huntington, IN, Cathy Young, Grand Rapids, MI, Cynthia Niswander (late husband, David Niswander), Huntington, IN, John W. (Stacey) Young, Huntington, IN; one sister, Janet (Johan) Brongers, FL; sister-in-law, Jacklyn Young, Huntington, IN; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and first wife, Carol, he was preceded in death by one brother, Martin “Gene” Young: two sisters, Norma Holzinger and Carol Groves.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., all at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.

A private burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
