James Edward Eckert

James Edward Eckert, 91, of Huntington, IN, passed away on August 27, 2019, at 11:44 a.m. at The Hearth at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne, IN.

     Mr. Eckert was born on January 3, 1928, in Huntington, IN, to Edward and Esther (Harper) Eckert.  His parents preceded him in death.  Mr. Eckert married Bertie Richardson on August 20, 1946, in Huntington, IN.  She preceded him in death on October 1, 2014. 

Mr. Eckert graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1945.  He served in the United States Army as a Clerk/Typist during WWII.  Mr. Eckert was an inspector for Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, IN, for 42 years, where he later retired.  He was also a mail carrier with the U. S. Post Office from 1952-1963.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN. 

 James is survived by one daughter, Dana Flora, Huntington, IN; four sons, Ron (Carol) Eckert, Larry (Mary) Eckert, both of Huntington, IN. Norm (Kathy) Eckert, Warner Robbins, GA, Brian Eckert, Logansport, IN; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

 Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Patrick Eckert; one sister, Patricia Barnes; and one son-in-law, Dale Flora.

Calling will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019, following the calling at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN  46750.
