J. Philip Karst, 85, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Karst was born on May 12, 1936, in Huntington, IN, to Joseph Herman and Anna (McNulty) Karst. His parents preceded him in death. Philip married Jacqueline Fox on January 17, 1959, in Columbia City, IN. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2019.
Phil was a 1954 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School and then served in the United States Army. Phil was a railroad conductor for Erie Lackawanna and a lifetime farmer. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also active with Love, Inc.
Phil is survived by four sons, Michael (Belinda) Karst, Huntertown, IN, Pat (Sara) Karst, Steve Karst, both of Huntington, IN, Doug (Sharon) Karst, Franklin, IN; 7 grandchildren, Nathan (David Olmsted) Karst, Andrew (Kerrie) Karst, Casey (Liz) Karst, Emma Karst, Katie (Adam) Fusselman, Lindsey (Michael) Caley, Megan (Markus) Clancy; and 8 great grandchildren.
Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas Karst, Robert Karst, John Karst; and one sister, Mary Helen Saluke.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to the calling at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m.
Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Thomas Zehr presiding.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
