George E. Smith, 61, of Huntington, died at 2:36p.m., on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.
George was born on August 25, 1959, in Malvern, AR, to Lowell and Dollie (Watson) Smith. His father preceded him in death. He married Carol Ness on July 17, 1982. She survives him in Huntington.
George was a Huntington North High School graduate in 1977. He served in the United States Army for 12 years. He was a Pressman/Supervisor at Our Sunday Visitor for many years. He was a member of Post #85, VFW #2689 and the Printer’s Union.
Along with his wife, Carol, he is survived by his mother, Dollie Smith, Huntington; two sons, Joshua Smith, Roanoke, IN, Jeremy Smith, Huntington, IN; one brother, David Smith, Huntington; one half-brother, George (Sharon) Graycochea, Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Geraldine (Brent) Phillips, Roanoke, IN, Debra (Dave) Hueber, Columbia City, IN; and two grandchildren, Thomas and Sophie Smith.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750. We ask that under CDC guidelines that a mask is worn and social distancing is required.
Additional calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Todd Mower and Pete Higginbotham officiating.
Burial will be at Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
