Fred L. Melching

Fred L. Melching, 94, Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Heritage of Huntington.

 Mr. Melching was born on March 30, 1927, to John H., Sr., and Cozy (Kinsey) Melching in Huntington, IN. His parents preceded him in death. Fred married Edith Dalrymple on October 28, 1949. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1997.

 Fred was a graduate of Union High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Cairo, Egypt. He also served in the United States Air Force. Fred retired from the Huntington Police Department, in 1975, after serving on the force for 20 years. He then was a school bus driver for 14 years. He was a member of the VFW post #2689 for 64 years, where he served in the honor guard with 16 other friends. He also was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police.  Fred enjoyed restoring his antique trucks.

 Mr. Melching is survived by two sons, Dennis R. Melching, Fort Wayne, IN, and Steven A. Melching, Huntington, IN.

 Along with his wife and parents he was preceded in death by one son, David L. Melching; two brothers, John H. Melching, Jr., and Carl Melching.

Mr. Melching was laid to rest next to his wife, Edith, and son, David, at Star of Hope Cemetery, Huntington, IN
