Frances "Fran" M. (Schemery) O'Brien

Frances “Fran” M. O’Brien, age 90, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.  

Fran was born on February 25, 1934, in Williamsport, PA, to the late Laurence H. and Myrtle May (Guthrie) Schemery. She married Joseph Robert O’Brien on June 18, 1955, and he preceded her in death July 8, 1982. 

Fran graduated from Williamsport High School in 1952. She worked for 18 years at First National Bank in Huntington and retired in 1996.  Later she worked for the American Red Cross of Huntington and Sather Management Corporation and retired in 2004. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Fran was an avid reader and devoted mother and grandmother to her four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Fran is survived by two sons, Timothy O’Brien, Jeffrey O’Brien, both of Huntington, IN; two daughters, Karen Jackson (fiancé Lee Keefer), Fort Wayne, IN, Kimberly O’Brien, Roanoke, IN; one sister, Peggy Klettke, Williamsport, PA; 3 grandchildren, Ryan (Lori) Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Grace O’Brien-Jones; and 3 great-grandchildren, Alivia Jackson, Jemma Jackson and Joseph Jackson.

Along with her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her long-time companion, Jay Briggs; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Additional calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
