Flossie Viola (Baumgartner) Baron Grable

Flossie Viola Baron Grable, age 88, of Columbia City, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Parkview Whitley Hospital.  

Flossie was born on August 4, 1936, in Adams County, IN, to the late Emil and Ida (Lash) Baumgartner. She married Dickie Dean Baron, and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1997. Her second marriage was to John Theodore Grable in 2004, and he passed on August 9, 2024.

Flossie received her LPN certification and worked for many years at Norwood Nursing Home in Huntington and was also Director of Nursing. She was a member of Big Lake Church of God in Columbia City, and a former ABWA member.  She loved to travel and spend time with her family.

Flossie is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Jane Howard, Columbia City, IN, Kathy Jo (Michael) Nunemaker, Huntington, IN; two stepsons, Lee (Carol) Grable, Fort Wayne, IN, Tim (MiYong) Grable, Columbia City, IN; one stepdaughter, June James Grable, Auburn, IN; grandchildren, Joshua Eric Lavrey, Joseph William Lavrey, Michael Stephen Clifton, Owen James Howard, Lesli (Howard) Johnson, Whitney (Howard) Schwartz; 14 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by four brothers, LeRoy Baumgartner, Harry Baumgartner, Wilford Baumgartner, Emil “Junior” Baumgartner; and three sisters, Mary Landis, Bernice Sipe and Vivian Singleton.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750, with Pastor Samuel Mills officiating.

Burial will be at Blue River Cemetery, 3395 E - 300 N, Columbia City, IN.
