Eugene "Gene" E. Fleck

Eugene “Gene” E. Fleck, age 76, of Huntington, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Trustbridge Hospice in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Gene was born on March 25, 1944, in Jasper, IN, to Lawrence Joseph and Marcella (Marks) Fleck.  His parents preceded him in death. Gene married Laura J. Roberts on August 7, 1965.   She survives and resides in Huntington.

Gene attended St. Meinard Seminary for five years.  He was a graduate of Indiana State University with a Master’s Degree in Latin.  Gene was a teacher for three years in Portage, IN. Following teaching he had several upper management positions over a 15 year period with the Budd Company located in Detroit and Findlay, Ohio. In 1985, along with partners from Hinkle Manufacturing, he built the current Indiana Box plant located in Riverfork Industrial Park.  In 1988, he with several partners started Innovative Packaging located on Flaxmill Road in Huntington. He was employed there until his death. Gene was an avid golfer, and loved to tell a good joke.  He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was very generous and passionate in helping others.  He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington.

Along with his wife he is also survived by one son, Chris (Julie) Fleck, Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Carrie (Terry) Miller, Warren, IN, Lori (Jeff) Cox, Huntington; one brother, Dan (Joan) Fleck, Plainfield, IN; one sister, Kitty (Bill) Weikert, Jasper, IN; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Carter Fleck; one brother, Allen Fleck; and four sisters, Marilyn Schmitt, Irma Schnaus, Donna Schmitt and Margaret Kress.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.

Due to the current Executive Order, masks and social distancing are required at the calling and Mass.

A private graveside will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
