Esther A. (Harber) Hinen

Esther A. Hinen, age 93, of Huntington, IN, passed away on January 14, 2022 at Saint Anne Communities – Victory Noll in Huntington.

  Mrs. Hinen was born on November 16, 1928, in Fort Wayne, IN, to Edward and Teresa (Landstoffer) Harber.   Her parents preceded her in death.  Mrs. Hinen married John H. Hinen Sr., on May 17, 1949.  He preceded her in death on February 6, 1995.

 Mrs. Hinen worked several years at Memcor and also at HK Porter. She also worked at Nieders Bakery and was a homemaker.  She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Huntington, IN, and a member of the Huntington County Senior Center where she loved to play cards. Esther was born the same year as Mickey Mouse and was an avid fan.         

 Esther is survived by five sons, John Hinen, Jr., Fort Wayne, IN, Steven (Pat) Hinen, Fort Wayne, IN, Larry (Lynn) Hinen, Columbia City, IN, Daniel (Wanda) Hinen, Fort Wayne, IN, Edward (Laura)Hinen, Huntington, IN; two daughters, Mary (Tim) Bowman, Huntington, IN, Ann (Dennis) Boyer, Roanoke, IN; two sisters, Rita Leeuw, Fort Wayne, IN, and Mary Holthaus, Huntington, IN.   She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

 Along with her husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandy Diffenbaugh; one brother, Thomas Harber; and three sisters, Myra Nichter, Evelyn Hunter, and Aggie Gibson; and one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Hinen.

 Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N Jefferson St. Huntington, IN.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 2:30 p.m. prior to the calling.

 Additional calling hours will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m., with Fr. Thomas Zehr presiding.

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
