Elizabeth (Brown) Skeen

Elizabeth Brown Skeen, age 85, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 1:55am at The Waters of Huntington.

Elizabeth was born on April 16, 1940, in Lafayette, IN to Robert and Maxine (Wallace) Brown. She married William Skeen who precedes her in death, as did her parents.

Elizabeth spent her time growing up in Jackson Township, Tippecanoe County with her brother William and many friends. She was the valedictorian of the first graduating class of Southwestern HS, class of 1958.   

Elizabeth was an educator for 34 years in Western Boone County School Corporation after acquiring her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Purdue University, and later earned a Doctorate of Education from Nova University. After retiring from the classroom, Elizabeth then worked for the Indiana Department of Education.

When not helping students through her educational endeavors, Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, playing the piano and organ for Jackson Heights United Methodist Church, also attending the Otterbein United Methodist Church, and contributing to many various civic minded groups: Psi Iota Xi, 4-H Leadership, Indiana State Teachers Association, and American Home Economics Association. She truly possessed a servant’s heart. Along with serving, Elizabeth truly enjoyed NASCAR and Indy Car Racing, attending the 500 event for over 20 years!

Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Crystal Hutchinson, and Jennifer Williams, both of Huntington, IN; one brother, William (Janet) Brown, resides in Indianapolis, and three grandchildren: Steven Williams, Levi (Hannah) Hutchinson, and William (fiancé Cat Meekin) Hutchinson. 
       
To honor the wishes of Elizabeth there will be no services. Her private interment will take place at a later date in West Point Indiana Cemetery.
