Dr. George Schul, II Obituary

Dr. George A. Schul, II, 81, Huntington, IN, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, IN.

Dr. Schul was born on April 9, 1940, in Greenville, OH, to William and Louise (Hintermeister) Schul.  George and Connie Kemp were married January 27, 1962, for 53 years before she preceded him in death on February 3, 2016.

George grew up on a farm in Fairfield, OH where his extended family had immigrated.  Dr. Schul attended Purdue University graduating with a bachelor and master degrees in animal husbandry.  Following Purdue, George and Connie started a family while he was working for Upjohn.  In 1970, George attended Michigan State University to study veterinary medicine, and graduated at the top of his class.

Dr. Schul moved his family to Huntington, Indiana in the summer of 1973, and subsequently opened the Huntington Veterinary Hospital.  He provided service to large and small animals until retiring in 1999.  At age 59, George and Connie started a full-time cattle farming business through 2010.  Additional service includes serving as chair of the Huntington County Health Department, as chair for many United Way campaigns, as Mentor in 4-H Vet Science program, and after retirement was recruited to serve nearly two terms as Huntington County Commissioner.  George played an instrumental role in getting the Sheets Wildlife museum off the ground by bringing people together to share similar values to work toward a common good.  Dr. Schul was a master communicator, allowing him to make a new friend out of anyone he would be blessed to meet.

Dr. Schul is survived by son Marlin Schul, spouse Susie, Dothan, AL; daughter, Carrie Weaver, spouse Jeff, Noblesville, IN; one brother, David Schul, spouse Carolyn; one sister-in-law, Carol Schul, both of Hamilton, OH; and 8 grandchildren, Madison, Alyssa, Mia Grace, Alexander, Zachary, Emersyn, Ella, and Ashton.

Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, William Schul.
