Debra Gardner Obituary

Debra M. Gardner, age 71, of Aurora, OH, formerly of Oldenburg/Andrews, Indiana, passed away on February 10, 2024, at Kensington at Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora, OH.

Debra was born on September 26, 1952, in Huntington, IN, to Mark and Juanita (Wesco) Anson, who survive and reside in Huntington.  Debra married David G. Gardner on July 1, 1972, and he preceded her in death on June 4, 2009.

Debra grew up on a large dairy farm, which taught her about hard work and dedication. She was a (10) year 4-H year member, former Miss Indiana Holstein, and a youth congress representative. One of her favorite memories as a youth was being selected to visit Europe on a youth farm tour during the end of the Cold War.  Debra was a 1971 graduate of Huntington North High school and received her associate degree from Vincennes University in 1972.  After marrying her husband, David, she found a love for athletics.  Debra became a youth coach and refereed at different levels, while helping to build a youth sports program for girls in Columbus, Ohio.  Later she would relish both her kids’ playing sports at the college level.

Debra was an immensely talented person who possessed a multitude of skills and interests. She was always finding new craft projects she wanted to create.  Debra loved to keep her yard and flowers pristine and was always wanting to find the newest plant to add to her yard.  Debra had a great sense of humor and was always up for a good prank or a hand of Euchre. Debra’s greatest passion in the end was her grandkids. As Alzheimer’s, later Dementia, started to take her memory and ability to walk, she loved to take a drive to watch them participate.  Her world became their school and events.

Along with her parents, she is also survived by one son, Jason (Michelle) Gardner, Greer, SC; one daughter, Amber (Michael) Lecher, Oldenburg, IN; two brothers, Aaron (Jolene) Anson, Andrews, IN, Arden Anson, Roanoke, IN; and (5) grandchildren, Travis Lecher, Renee Lecher, Stella Lecher, Mason Gardner and Mia Gardner.

There will be private services and a burial at Union Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
