David Schreiber Obituary

“If my time on Earth is limited, let me have springtime along the river for a hundred years.”

David Wayne Schreiber, 79, of Roanoke, IN, passed away surrounded by family and loved ones on Sunday, January 14, 2024,  at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.

David was born on June 19, 1944, to William and Maime (Deam) Schreiber in Bluffton, Indiana.  He married Patricia Marie (Caywood) on October 5, 1991, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Roanoke.

David graduated in 1962 from Bluffton High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1967-1971.  David attended IPFW and studied Mechanical Engineering.  He was a journeyman tool and die maker and a master at his craft. He retired from Bentler Tool and Die. An avid outdoorsman and naturalist, David was passionate about all thing’s nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking.  He backpacked in the San Isabel National Forest, the Smokey Mountains and even soloed through parts of the Appalachian Trail.  David spent time volunteering at Fox Island Nature Preserve teaching others about his passion for the great outdoors and tending to the variety of trees he planted at his home.  David was a talented carpenter, building furniture and even musical instruments for friends and family.  He wrote countless poems and enjoyed the readings of Steinbeck, Thoreau, and Frost.  Creation was where David found his inspiration and his sanctuary with the Lord.

David is survived by his wife, three sons; Tim (Theresa) Schreiber, Randy (Cindy) Schreiber, Daniel (Kathryn) Schreiber, a daughter; Caitlin (Alec) Cohee, a brother; Donald (Rosemary) Schreiber, a sister; Janet Pence, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Phyllis (Vaughn) Macon, and a brother, Jerry Lee “Sammy” Schreiber.
