David Lee Kennedy, of Huntington, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on May 22, 2026, at the age of 84.
He lived his life with determination, quiet strength, and steadfast faith. Those who knew him will remember not only what he accomplished, but the way he carried himself throughout life — with humility, discipline, and a deep commitment to serving others.
David was born in Huntington, Indiana, to Paul E. and Dorothy M. (Bell) Kennedy. From an early age, David distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete at Huntington Catholic High School earning All-State honors in basketball, track and field, baseball, and golf. His work ethic, sportsmanship, and understanding of the fundamentals of the game helped define him.
He later attended Indiana University, after which he pursued professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians organization, reflecting both his talent and lifelong dedication to the sport he loved.
His professional life reflected that same commitment. David worked for the Catholic Diocese before continuing his career with Pella Corporation, where he was highly respected for his integrity, judgment, and reliability.
Faith guided every part of David’s life. From altar boy to Eucharistic minister, from teacher to parish volunteer, he lived his Catholic faith quietly and consistently — through service rather than words.
On May 2, 1970, David married Karen Kennedy-Evans, and together they raised their children, Christopher, Kathleen, and Kelly.
As a devoted husband and father, David spent much of his adult life coaching youth basketball and baseball, including serving as assistant coach for the Time Corners All-Star team that went on to play in the Little League World Series. And anyone lucky enough to get cornered at the grocery store probably heard that story a few more times over the past 35 years — usually with a little more detail each time.
Above all else, David loved his family. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and remained a steady source of encouragement, support, and love throughout their lives.
David is survived by his longtime companion, Linda Stefankiewicz; his former wife, Karen Kennedy-Evans; his son, Christopher Kennedy and wife, Carly Kennedy; his daughters, Kathleen Kennedy and husband, Thomas Keefe, and Kelly Kennedy; his grandchildren, Catherine “Cate” Kennedy, Thomas Kennedy, William Kennedy, and Jack Fitzwilliam Keefe; as well as many adored and often teased nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E. and Dorothy M. Kennedy; his brother, John C. Kennedy; and his sister, Barbara A. Kennedy.
A private family Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, Indiana.
A private burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Huntington, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in memory of David Lee Kennedy.
David will be remembered as a man deeply committed to his faith and service to others, and as someone who gave himself wholeheartedly to his family and community. He will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
