David B. Hazelet

David B. Hazelet, age 80, of Roanoke, IN, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.

 David was born on June 25, 1942, in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Paul and Gertrude (Gatton) Hazelet. He married Joan Elliott on January 15, 1965, she survives in Roanoke.

 David was a 1960 graduate of Elmhurst High School. He graduated with a BA degree from Ball State Teachers College in 1965. He worked for over 30 years as a Risk Analyst for Lincoln Life Insurance Co., Fort Wayne, IN.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Huntington. David was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fort Wayne, IN. He was an avid gardener and amateur historian.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

 Along with his wife, David is survived by two sons, Eric Hazelet, Genola,UT, Victor (Kathy) Hazelet, Fort Wayne, IN; one daughter, Lisa Hazelet, Spencerville, OH; one brother, Mark (Jackie) Hazelet, North Webster, IN; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Tim) Welker, Stephanie (Tyler) Echols, Lauren (Andrew) Meek, Megan (Blake) Penrod, Rebecca Hazelet, Hannah Hazelet, Cassidy Hazelet, and Ethan (Josie) Hazelet and eleven great grandchildren, with two more on the way.

 Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Carpenter and his daughter-in-law, Sheryl Hazelet.

 Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1190 W 500 N, Huntington, IN, 46750, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

 Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, IN.

 In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Huntington County Animal Shelter in care of McElhaney-Hart/Deal Rice Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
