David Carlson Caley, age 82, of Huntington, IN, passed away at Fort Wayne VA Medical Center on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was born on April 14, 1941, in Huntington, IN, to the late Dale and Dorothy (Swain) Caley. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Marge Caley. David is survived by his long-time companion, Diane Burnworth, Huntington, IN.
Dave served in the United States Army in Germany from 1959-1962. He was a licensed contractor for 50 years. He started working with his dad at Caley Construction and later owned Dave’s Construction for 22 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and American Legion Post #85. He was a proud member of AA and received his 50-year medallion in October 2023.
Along with Diane, he is survived by one son, David Duane Caley, Battle Creek, MI; one stepson, Jeff (Judy) Cross, Huntington, IN; one stepdaughter, Heather DeLaGrange, Huntington, IN; one brother, Mike (Darlene) Caley, Jacksonville, NC; four sisters, Mara Reen, Jane Troutman, both of Battle Creek, MI, Deb (Charlie) Penn, Huntington, IN, Kitty Caley, Euless, TX; 9 grandchildren, David M. (Shailyn) Caley, Sarah Caley, Sara Burnworth, Ryan Burnworth, Bradley Taylor, Jr., Riley Taylor, Brandi Cross, Eric (Jessica) Cross, Colt Cross; and one great-granddaughter on the way, Hazel Caley.
Along with his parents and stepmother, he was preceded in death by his wife; Clarabel Caley; one brother, Duane Caley; two sisters, Ruth Ann Caley, Mary Lou Caley; and one stepson, Kenny Cross.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
Additional calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home.
The burial will be at Monument City Memorial Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
