Obituary

Connie S. Rich, age 70, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Parkview Regional in Fort Wayne, IN.

Connie was born on September 21, 1952, in Lima, OH, to the late Leroy L. and Evelyn A. (Gerdemann) Lawrence. Connie married Donald W. Rich on May 18, 1974, and he survives and resides in Huntington.

Connie was a 1970 graduate of Huntington North High School and a 1971 graduate of a dental assisting program in Fort Wayne. She was a secretary with Region 8 Corporation for 26 years, retiring in 2018. Connie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, the Rosary Sodality, a Eucharistic Minister and helped assist with funeral dinners. She also enjoyed volunteering at St. Anne’s in Huntington.

Connie was as dedicated as a mother and grandmother could be, she never missed a sporting event, performance, birthday, graduation, or Grandparents Day program. Connie was a voracious reader; she could be counted on to bring a book to every baseball game. Her love of gardening reflected her ability to bring out the beauty in all things. Nothing she did was for herself; everything she did she did so someone else could enjoy it. She brought Holy Communion to the homebound. She was an avid blood donor, even if she had to occasionally fib about her weight to be eligible. Friends, family, and neighbors all knew that Christmas was not Christmas without Connie’s Christmas cookies. Most importantly, she was an example to her family and to all who knew her about being dedicated in faith and trust to God.

Along with her husband, Don; she is survived by two sons, Jason (Anna) Rich, Claypool, IN, Tyler (Amy) Rich, Indianapolis, IN; three brothers, Larry (Sharon) Lawrence, Michael (Andrea) Lawrence, both of Huntington, IN, Christopher Lawrence, CO; two sisters, Jean Sands, Sandra Mullins, both of Huntington, IN; and 6 grandchildren, Ava, Mariah, Porter, Cassie, Evelyn, and Tessa.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Lawrence, and Janet Lawrence.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
