Choleta E. Scher, age 70, of Columbia City, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at residence.
Choleta was born on April 2, 1955, in Huntington, IN, to the late Marvin I. and Ruth C. (Peterson) Early. She married Jeffrey B. Scher on October 11, 1986, and he resides in Columbia City.
Choleta was a 1973 graduate of Huntington North High School. In the 70’s she worked as a Manager at Z Place Pizza in Roanoke and in the 80’s through 2005 she worked for the U.S. Food Service installing computer systems. Later on, she worked in the office at Rupley Farm Equipment. She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Her love and enjoyment were her children and grandchildren. She cared deeply and adored her grandchildren and treasured her role as Gigi.
Along with her husband, Jeff, Choleta is survived by one son, Michael P. Scher, New Haven, IN; one daughter, Miranda J. (Ryan) Castle, Columbia City, IN; two brothers, Marvin Lloyd Early, Valparaiso, IN, Joseph A. Early, Huntington, IN; one sister, Debra (James) Smith, Columbia City, IN; her two grandchildren, Emersyn and Eloise Castle; one niece, Jennifer (Cory) Rockafellow; and nephew, Josh (Allison) Smith.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother at birth.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, from 4pm to 7pm, with a Recitation of the Rosary, beginning at 3:30 pm, all at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11:00 am, with visitation prior to Mass, from 10am to 11am, all at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN 46750, with Father Tony Steinacker presiding.
Burial will follow Mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Huntington Catholic School Tuition Fund in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, In.
