Charles Kummer, age 86, of Roanoke, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital Fort Wayne, IN.
Born June 25, 1938, in Roanoke, IN, to the late Gerald and Mary (Smith) Kummer, Charles married Maryann Caston on July 26, 1959, and celebrated 62 years together before her passing on December 17, 2021.
Charlie was a 1956 graduate of Roanoke High School. He joined the apprentice program at General Electric—remaining there for 42 years as a Tool & Die Maker. An active member of Roanoke Christ’s United Methodist Church, Charlie served in a variety of leadership and support roles. He served as a cubmaster, scoutmaster, and advisor for the Boy Scouts for many years, and was a former member of the Roanoke Town Council. Also active with the Girl Scouts, he helped Maryann with many programs, especially cookie sales.
Charles is survived by sons, C. Wayne (Mary) Kummer, Lebanon, IN; Scott (Jennifer) Kummer, Roanoke, IN; daughter, Teresa (Michael) Ladd, Columbia City, IN; brother, Ron (Kay) Kummer, Fremont, IN; grandchildren, Tabitha Kummer, Samantha (Mitch) Young, Connor Ladd, Trevor Ladd, Jesa Kummer, Joshua Kummer, and Julianna Kummer; and great-grandchildren, Corbin and Devin Ulander, Julia, Dawson and Huxley Young.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at McElhaney Funeral Home-Roanoke Chapel, 240 Crestwood Drive, Roanoke, IN.
Additional visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Roanoke Community Church, 148 W 3rd Street, Roanoke, IN, 46783, with grandson Connor Ladd officiating.
There will be a graveside service immediately following at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, IN.
