Carolyn J. Shaw

Carolyn J. Shaw, age 90, of Huntington, passed away on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at Life’s Journey of Avon, Indianapolis, IN.

Carolyn was a graduate of Huntington High School.  She was the Assistant floral designer for Marsh Supermarket for 24 years until it closed in 2017.  Carolyn was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Rosary Sodality.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, making jewelry, and going on adventures with her best friend, Millie. They had been friends since kindergarten.  Her favorite pastimes were hand-feeding the chipmunks and watching the hummingbirds at her daughter’s house.

Anyone who crossed paths with Carolyn would tell you how amazing she was. She was loving, kind, strong and independent. She always went with the flow and would never sweat the small stuff. She always found the good in everyone. She was an awesome mother and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. She treasured time with family and friends.  Carolyn made this world a better place, and she will be greatly missed by her family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carolyn was born on February 1, 1931, in Huntington, IN, to Paul H. Weiford and Margaret (Lowman) Weiford Knote.  Her parents, along with her step-father, Dane Knote; husband of 42 years, John D. Shaw; son, Paul F. Shaw; sister, Margaret K. Draper; step-brother, Jack Knote; and step-sisters, Phyllis Keller and Sue Ann Knote, all preceded her in death. 

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Sherry L. Shaw, Avon, IN; her brother, Hervey (Barb) Weiford, Roanoke, IN; three grandchildren, Daniel Hendry (Kacie Scarbrough), Camby, IN, Michael Sean Shaw, Loxahatchee, FL, Christina (Mike) Stitt, Rockwell, NC; 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., with calling hours following from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  A Memorial Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Zehr presiding.  

Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, Indiana.
