Carl “Ed” Saal, age 72, of Fort Wayne, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Ed was born on April 30, 1953, in Huntington, IN, to the late Carl Andrew and Swannora (Bellam) Saal.
Ed graduated from Huntington High School in 1971 and worked at Dairy Queen as a fryer in Huntington and Auburn for 25 years. Ed was a member of the Gethsemane Church in Fort Wayne, Big Brothers & Sisters, and was a crossing guard for several years at Huntington North High School.
Ed loved collecting trains and doing arts and crafts. He loved making new friends and making people laugh. He liked to go out into the community and make people feel special and let them know he was thinking and praying for them.
Ed was blessed to have a special friend Rose who survives and resides in Fort Wayne.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a special friend, Sharon.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service with Pastor Debra Meuter officiating.
A private burial will be at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ed’s memory to Humane Fort Wayne, in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
