Carl Thomas Ness

Carl Thomas Ness, 89, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, surrounded by his family at Parkview Huntington Hospital in Huntington.  

Carl was born on December 15, 1934, in Roanoke, IN, to the late George A. and Mary Ilene (Palmer) Ness. He was a 1953 graduate of Roanoke High School.  After serving in the United States Army, Carl married the love of his life, Sondra Bickel, on May 17, 1958.

Most recently, Carl was the Plant Manager for IMI, formerly known as Erie Stone. He served as Manager over the Markle, Bluffton and Montpelier quarries until his retirement in 1996. Carl was a devout Catholic, a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Huntington, and Secular Franciscan Order, formerly the Third Order of Saint Francis.  He was a past member of the Huntington Kiwanis Club and was a funeral attendant for many years at Hart Funeral Home. He was an avid IU basketball fan, a talented handyman and a great carpenter. With his background in farming, Carl loved to drive fast in the country while admiring the growing crops.

Along with Sondra, his loving wife of 66 years, Carl is survived by his four daughters, Carlene “Carly” Ness (John Daughety), Dallas, TX, Suzanne Ness, Bloomington, IN, Sarah (Mark) McCammon, Columbia City, IN, Sheila (Bill) Meese, Huntington, IN; six grandchildren, Jackson Daughety, Olivia Daughety, Spencer McCammon, Lindsey McCammon, Madison Meese (Conor Lloyd), and Grant Meese; one brother, Steve (Sherrill) Ness, Huntington, IN; one sister, Mary Ann Ness, Huntington, IN;

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Palmer Ness, George Ness and Joseph Ness.

Calling hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. beginning with the rosary at 9:00 a.m., on Monday, June 10, 2024, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with good friend Fr. Tony Steinacker presiding.  

A private burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
