Barbara Ann Kastner, 89, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Coventry Meadows in Fort Wayne, IN.
Mrs. Kastner was born on August 2, 1930, to Francis and Cecile M. (Allen) Bartrom. Her parents preceded her in death. Barbara married James H. Kastner on September 30, 1950, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington. He preceded her in death on October 19, 1997.
Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. In 1949 she was crowned Miss Huntington.
She was a life-long member of St. Mary Catholic Church and held offices in the Ladies Rosary Sodality of the church. She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Columbian Ladies and a former member of Delta Theta Tau Sorority. Barbara was a member of the P.T.A. of Huntington Catholic School and Huntington Catholic High School, holding different offices for many years.
Barbara was an office manager at Western Southern Insurance Co., for 5 years, Paul Hoon Photography Studio for 10 years as their receptionist/business assistant. She then worked at Dandy “Lady Shoppe”, Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio, Modern Shoe Store, Double Nice Consignment store and as a receptionist for Dr. Regan. Barbara enjoyed being a grandma and spending time with her family and friends.
Barbara is survived by three sons: Michael (Kimberly) Kastner, DDS, Sylvania, OH, Rick Kastner, Fort Wayne, IN, John Kastner, Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Renee (Tom) Keihn, Huntington, IN, Angela Kastner, Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Donald (Mary) Bartrom, Huntington, IN; 8 grandchildren, Kevin, Ryan and Derek Kastner, Sara Cohle, Alex Kastner, Miranda Knott, Laura Burgess and David Keihn; and three great-grandchildren, Kylie Knott, Abram Knott and Thomas Burgess.
Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Dean Bartrom and Ronald Thomas Bartrom.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
Recitation of the Rosary will follow the calling on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington with Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating.
In lieu of flowers preferred memorials are to either Masses, Huntington Catholic School or to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
