Alan P. Ehler, age 70, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
Alan was born on August 30, 1953, in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Paul and Lorean (Jahnke) Ehler. Alan was married to Susan Martin on April 8, 1978, and have celebrated 45 years of marriage. She currently resides in Northport, MI.
Alan graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1971 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Huntington College in 1976. Alan had a long and successful career as an educator, entrepreneur, and executive, beginning as an administrator for Pathfinders Services in Huntington, IN. In 1979, he transitioned into business where he worked as an account executive with Newark Electronics. From 1994 until 2007, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of Superior Auto/SAC Finance in Fort Wayne, IN.
Alan was a devout Catholic and long-time parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, watersports, and hiking. He had a passion for giving back to his community, in particular around children’s healthcare and access to education. Alan loved spending time with his friends, his family, and grandchildren. He was a stranger to none and a friend to all.
Along with his wife Susan, Alan is survived by two daughters, Erika Murphy, Grand Rapids, MI, Alissa (Justin) Miller, Grand Rapids, MI; one brother, William (Linda) Ehler, Roanoke, IN; five grandchildren, Cohen Murphy, Lachlan Murphy, Charles Miller, William Miller, and Violet Miller, all of Grand Rapids, MI.
A brief viewing will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by a Catholic mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St, Huntington, IN. A celebration of life and a private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Mary Catholic School (Leelanau, MI) in care of McElhaney Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750.
