Robert Emmett Eckert, Sr., 91, of Albion, IN, and formerly of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Miller’s at Oak Pointe, Columbia City, IN.
Mr. Eckert was born on May 7, 1928, in Huntington, IN, to Herman J. and Hazel M. (Eltzroth) Eckert. His parents preceded him in death. Robert married Bertha Rudy on June 24, 1977, she preceded him in death on September 20, 1994.
Robert graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1946. Robert served in the United States Army. He was a truck driver for many years. He was a member of the VFW #4717, Wolf Lake, American Legion #7, and The Moose Lodge in Huntington.
Robert is survived by two sons, Robert E. (Charlene) Eckert, Jr., Richard Lee Eckert, both of Albion, IN; two daughters, Susan (Bill) Forgey, Pamela (David) Shideler, both of Huntington; one brother, Bill Eckert, Fort Wayne, IN; 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one grandson; one brother and three sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m.
Additional calling will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to Mass.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Father Stephen Colchin presiding.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
