Robert P. Bir

Robert P. Bir, 97, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019, at Tipton Place, Huntington, IN.                

Mr. Bir was born on September 26, 1922, in Huntington, IN, to the late Frank X. and Margaret C. (Hesting) Bir.   He married Marilyn J. Weinley on April 23, 1955, and she preceded him in death on January 3, 2000.

Robert graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1941.   He was a member of the United States Merchant Marines and served during WWII as an oiler and was stationed in North Africa, Panama Canal and the South Pacific.   He was a carver for Bircraft for over 50 years. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, VFW #2689, and a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus #1014.

Robert is survived by his son, Michael Bir, Huntington, IN; and one brother, Mark Bir, Euclid, OH.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard Bir, Charles Bir, John Bir; and two sisters, Bernice Clafin, and Helen Eisenhauer.

Calling will be on Thursday, October 3, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
