Richard "Dick" T. Scher

Richard T. “Dick” Scher, 86, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Heritage Pointe of Huntington.

Mr. Scher was born on February 13, 1933, to Henry J. and Lena K. (Gelzleichter) Scher in Huntington, IN.  His parents preceded him in death.  He married Margaret “Mugs” Schultis on October 5, 1957.  She preceded him in death on January 8, 2019.

Richard graduated from Huntington Catholic in 1951.  He served in the United States Air Force.  He retired in 1986 from International Harvester as a Purchaser after 35 years of service.  He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus #1014, American Legion Post #7 and the Moose Lodge #837.

Richard is survived by one son, Kevin J. (Sue) Scher, Macy, IN; four daughters, Karen (Dan) Dunbar, Martinsville, IN, Sandy (Greg) Augspurger, Denver, NC, Barb (Doug) Shock, North Manchester, IN, Beth (Mike) Clark, Huntington, IN; eight grandchildren; Tony (Tasha) Dunbar, Luke (Julie) Augspurger, Jake (fiancé’ Annie) Augspurger, Levi (Tiffany Griese) Shock, Erin (Rob) Toll, Jared Clark, Molly Scher, Nicky Scher; and 4 great grandchildren, Hadley Toll, Tyson Dunbar, Tayden Dunbar and Caleb Augspurger.

Along with his parents and his wife Mugs of 61 years, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Eugene Scher, George Scher, Earl Scher, Delbert Scher, James Scher, Robert J. Scher; and 5 sisters, Phyllis “Sue” Pfister, Marjorie Meyer, Sister Josephine Scher, Dorothy Stoltz and Kathleen Hesting.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street Huntington, IN.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to calling hours at 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Additional calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019, prior to Mass from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 860 Cherry Street, Huntington, IN, with Father Tony Steinacker presiding.

Burial with Military Rites will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
