Madeline Scarbrough Obituary

Madeline Mary Scarbrough, 98, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at her residence surrounded by family.

Madeline was born on August 28, 1921, in Paulding, OH, to Peter and Viola (Strable) Daeger. Her parents preceded her in death.  She married Frank Edwin Scarbrough on May 30, 1946, in Paulding, OH.  He preceded her in death on September 13, 1997.

Madeline was a 1939 graduate of Paulding High School in Ohio.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington.  She loved to bowl and bowled on many different leagues and was an exceptional ballroom dancer.   Madeline would design some of her clothes and was an incredible seamstress. She was a volunteer at the Hoosier Air Museum.

Madeline is survived by one son, James Scarbrough, Woodburn, IN; four daughters, Susan (Michael) Lewis-Grissom, Columbia City, IN, Theresa (Wayne) Smith, Huntington, Laura (Brian) Barber, Austin, TX, Mary Beth (Scott) Gerber, Fort Wayne, IN; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Scarbrough; one daughter, Marcia Levine; two brothers, Paul Daeger, Louie Daeger; and one sister, Rosemary Scarbrough.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to the calling on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, 46750, with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to either of the following; Huntington County Humane Society, Cancer Services of Huntington County, or Parkview Home Health & Hospice in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
