Leo H. Scheer, 95, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019, at The Heritage Pointe of Huntington, Huntington, IN.
Mr. Scheer was born on January 10, 1924, in Huntington, IN, to Leo N. and Naomi Ruth (Mygrant) Scheer. His parents preceded him in death. Leo married Dagmar E. Carlson in 1948. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1982.
Leo graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1942. Mr. Scheer served three years in the United States Navy during WW II. He fought both in the Pacific and European Theatre of War. As a medic, he received the D-Day Veteran medal and the French Croix de Guerre Medal. Leo was a bricklayer and contractor and was the owner of L. N. Scheer & Sons for 40 years and worked at Erie Stone Co. for 10 years.
Leo was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Post #7, V.F.W. Post # 2689, Past President and Past secretary of Huntington Metro Kiwanis Club, a charter member of the WW II Museum in New Orleans and a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers.
Mr. Scheer is survived by several Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Leo was preceded in death by two brothers: Paul N. Scheer, Richard V. Scheer; and one sister, Naomi Jean Walters.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street Huntington, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will follow the calling at 7:00 p.m. .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN, with Father Stephen Colchin presiding.
Burial with Military Honors will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
