Jan L. (Lewis) Scher

Jan L. Scher, 60, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Auburn Village, Auburn, IN.

Jan was born on January 1, 1959, in Brooklyn, NY, to Jack and Sharon (Dalrymple) Lewis, who survive and reside in Huntington.  Jan married James D. Scher on September 8, 1979, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington. Jim survives and resides in Huntington.

Jan was a 1977 graduate of Huntington North High School. She was a dedicated mom and foster mom to over 160 children.  She was an active member of the Make a Wish Foundation and a parent advocate for INSOURCE in Huntington.  Jan was a Wish Granter for Make a Wish Foundation and she made sure wishes were granted to many children.  She was a former 4-H Leader and recipient for the Leader of the Year.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.  Jan continued to be an active member of 4-H as a judge of photography in Huntington and surrounding counties.   She had coached at the YMCA and loved being outside, crocheting and gardening.

Along with her parents and husband, Jan is survived by four sons, Joel (Brooke) Scher, Huntington, IN, Justin (Danielle) Scher, Auburn, IN, Jowaun (Seth) Scher, Auburn, IN, Jaythan Scher, Huntington, IN; one daughter, Jodie Scher, Huntington, IN; two brothers, Brad (Robin) Lewis, Huntington, IN, Greg (Sheila) Lewis, Woodburn, IN; one sister, Nikki Schilling, Huntington, IN; and two grandchildren, Keegan and Mckinlee Scher, Auburn, IN.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
