Jan Duane Bartrom

Jan Duane Bartrom, 78, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at 1:11 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.                                            

  Mr. Bartrom was born on July 16, 1941, in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late John and Dorothy (Hurd) Bartrom. He married Linda Householder on July 16, 1966, in Huntington.  Linda survives and resides in Huntington, IN. 

Jan graduated from Huntington Catholic High School in 1960.  He served in the United States Army.  He worked for Erie Railroad and was a machinist at Dana Corporation and retired in 2006.  He was a member of Union Church, American Legion Rider, Patriot Guard Rider, American Legion Post 7 and Post 85, and former Chaplin and Ride Captain for the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders.   He loved God, family and was a visual storyteller through his photography.

Along with his wife, Linda, he is survived by one son, Jim (Janet) Bartrom, Huntington, IN; two daughters, Sherri (Joel) Guhl, Kerri (Barry) Johnson, both of Huntington; one brother, John Bartrom, Huntington; three sisters, Judy Sanders, Lynne (Dan) Cicatko, both of Huntington, and Jill (John) Christ, Fort Wayne, IN.  He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Nick Guhl, Tara Guhl, Matthew Guhl and two great grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Bartrom.

Calling will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Union Church, 3688 E – 400 N, Huntington, IN.

Additional calling will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 am. prior to the service at the church.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at Union Church with Rev. Rick Hines and Pastor Mark Hoffer officiating.

Military Rites will be conducted immediately following the service.

A private burial will be held at a later date at Gardens of Memory, Marion, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either of the following: Cancer Services of Huntington County, American Legion Riders, or the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
